9-octubre.jpg9th October, Region of Valencia celebrates the entrance of King Jaime I into Valencia in 1238. To conmemorate this day, several acts and shows take place all over the region.

On October 9th, Valencia will be the setting for a historic parade, starting at 5.30 p.m. Over 700 characters will be lining the city streets, just as in 1428, the year in which Alfonso the Magnanimous organised a parade in memory of King Jaume I. Furthermore, just like every year, there will be a civil procession in which Valencia’s regional flag known as the Real Senyera, will be paraded through the streets to the Cathedral. Of course, there will be no lack of festive acts such as the traditional firecrackers or mascletaes, bull fighting and Moors & Christians parades.

On October 9th, Alicante, Valencia and Castellón will also be celebrating the festivity of Sant Dionís, patron saint of lovers, when it is traditional to give la mocaorà, a knotted silk handkerchief that contains marzipan.

Remember that the festivity is not only on 9th October, but they will start on 4th October and will last till 11th October.
