On the 26th of June 2010, ESMOVIA organised for the participants in the Leonardo da Vinci project “Europexp”, a professional visit to two of the most important wineries of Denominacion de Origen Utiel-Requena, in the interior area of the Comunidad Valenciana region.

The 6 participants of “Euroexp” come from the Italian region Veneto and all of them are students of Wine Production and Agriculture courses. During their stay in Valencia, ESMOVIA has organised for them work placements in the Agriculture sector as well as a Spanish language course and this professional visit.

The first winery to visit was Bodegas Iranzo, one the first in producing wine organically. The group was received by an employee with more that 20 years of experience, and showed the vineyards, the different types of grapes cultivated as well as the irigation system and tools. The visit continued in the winecellar with a wine tasting activity, where the group could appreciate the wines produced in the factory.

The second visit took place in Bodegas Hoya de Cadena. The “wine train” made a tour through the vineyards and took the group to the old factory where the guide was waiting. The visit continued in the production room and winecellar and ended with a wine tasting of their 3 best wines plus a cava (sparkling wine). Bodegas Hoya de Cadena, with a production of 35 milions of bottles / years, can be considered the most productive winery of the Denominacion de Origen association.

Some videos of the visit can be viewed below:
